This means I will be strapped to the wings of a plane and fly through the skies at around 135 miles an hour. The duration of this thrill seeking event is around 10 minutes. I will be keeping my wits about me as I zoom in for a fly past at just 50ft off the ground and pull up for a sharp climb before heading into the finale - a classic manoeuvre, the 'run and break'.

I am raising money for Coventry and Warwickshire Mind, 'Changing Young Lives Appeal'.

Nationally one in ten young people are considered to have a mental health disorder (Office for National Statistics) and it is estimated that 20% will have a mental health problem in any given year (Mental Health Foundation).

In an average classroom:
•10 young people will have witnessed their parents separate;
•8 will have experienced severe physical violence, sexual abuse or neglect;
•1 will have experienced the death of a parent; and
•7 will have been bullied

(Young Minds)

The two most common types of mental health problems in young people are internalising problems such as anxiety, and externalising problems such as conduct disorder.

We know that childhood and adolescence are the most significant stages of human development and a critical period in psychological development and wellbeing. Research informs us that early identification and treatment of emotional issues in school can prevent a problem from escalating and becoming of clinical significance (Young Minds) and that it can improve the following outcomes for children and young people:

•learning and educational attainment
•physical health
•long term mental health

(BOND)

Coventry & Warwickshire Mind provides a wide range of services and support to children and young people as young as 5. These include specialist support for young people who have experienced trauma or are in care to buddying for young people who are isolated and group work for young people who have difficulties in expressing and managing their emotions & behaviours.

A lot of this work is unfunded or the funding we receive does not cover the demand placed on our services.

Please, please help me to raise money and ensure that such a worthy service can continue.
