The Big Lottery Fund is giving nearly £400,000 of funding to Coventry and Warwickshire Mind.
The £397,251 will go towards delivering Body and Mind, which creates individual well-being plans to help improve people’s physical as well as mental health.
The money comes from BIG’s Reaching Communities programme which aims to help those most in need and build stronger communities.
The Body & Mind project can now expand and help more people over the next three years.
A range of carefully tailored support will be offered through one-to-one coaching and group activities including exercise classes, swimming, personal workouts, relaxation techniques and healthy eating sessions.
David Healey Director of Operations at Coventry Mind said: “Being awarded the Reaching Communities grant is fantastic news for us as an organisation. We know from our own work and research that people with mental health issues are far more likely to have poor physical health, often due to poor diet and lack of exercise and face many barriers in accessing mainstream services.
“The Body & Mind service is all about working around the needs of the individual, providing the motivation, tools and techniques to better understand the relationship between their mental health, what they eat and what activity they undertake and ultimately to make changes in their life that they can continue way beyond the service.”
